News: MC Ross Jr. Golf Tour Presented by Crowe MacKay: Championship Update

August 29th, 2018

The 2018 McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe MacKay, came to a terrific conclusion this afternoon at Wolf Creek Golf Resort. Ninety-four junior golfers from across the province converged on “The Wolf” to test their games on a course that has humbled many of the best young touring professionals in the world, as Wolf Creek was a regular stop hosting the Alberta Open on the Canadian Tour. Brisk winds and a chilly morning greeted the kids today, but full marks to these young people for slugging it out on an immaculately conditioned golf course, one of the Top 100 in Canada as recognized by SCORE Golf.

Mathieu Chapdelaine of Connaught GC ‘slugged’ it the best among the junior boys, firing a 5-over par 75, which is amazing considering the Medicine Hat youngster was 7-over par after 6 holes! Chapdelaine needed every stroke, as he ended up a solitary shot clear of 3 players, Kaiden Nicholson of the Edmonton CC, Chase Bodoano of Broadmoor GC in Sherwood Park, and Brendan Weiland of Springbank Links in Calgary.

Newly crowned Alberta Golf Bantam Girls Champion Jayla Kucy, 12, of Camrose became the youngest Tour Champion in the Tour’s 23-year history by firing a steady 77, six shots clear of her nearest competitor, Kaitlyn Wingnean of the Derrick GWC.
