News: Crowe MacKay’s 2018 Partner ConferenceSeptember 24th, 2018
Crowe MacKay LLP held their annual Partner Conference in the beautiful city of Yellowknife, NT this year. Yellowknife is one of our eight offices in northern and western Canada, and this years’ conference was a great opportunity to showcase the work our Yellowknife office has done in their community, as well as their participation in Yellowknife’s economic development. This conference highlighted some of the exciting and newly emerging practice areas we are seeing across all of CMLLP’s eight markets: SR&ED, Risk Advisory, Global Mobility, and Tech & Innovation. It was an exciting couple of days!
Our Yellowknife team is always hard at work in and out of the office, and were able to highlight their work with not-for-profits like the SPCA, Yellowknife Community Foundation, Yellowknife Minor hockey, as well as their financial literacy work; our Yellowknife office often hosts finance courses available to the public, (next classes start Oct 15!). Most recently, Crowe MacKay Yellowknife joined the Kitikmeot Chamber of Commerce in Nunavut, and continue to be actively involved in the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce. Great work, and thanks to our Yellowknife hosts this year!
The Partner Conference was able to highlight some exciting new developments internally, as well, as we had some of our in-house experts present on the newest emerging markets in the accounting industry:
SR&ED: David Tung, CPA, CMA, Practice Leader, SR&ED and Business Tax Incentives
SR&ED, or “shred,” refers to the Scientific Research and Experimental Development program, the largest of its kind in Canada. The tax program is designed to encourage research and development of all kinds, and it can apply to a number of industries: agriculture, food and beverage, life science, consumer products, energy and natural resources, oil and gas, real estate and construction, technology, and more.
Risk Advisory: Ed Olson, CPA, CA, Practice Leader, Advisory Services
Under the umbrella of Risk Advisory is risk, of course, but also compliance and governance. Crowe MacKay’s experts help companies develop risk-management tools and risk-management reporting, to identify potential financial liabilities in order to guide your organization through risk-forecasting strategies. Our team has assisted in risk advisory in a variety of industries: banks, education, Indigenous communities, government, and aviation.
Global Mobility: Nupur Rishi, Enrolled Agent (US), Director, Global Mobility Tax
Global mobility services assists companies in capitalizing on opportunities on a global scale. Cross-border and international work is becoming increasingly more common as companies globalize, and sometimes the international movement of employees can pose challenges. Global Mobility services act to assist with these obstacles and minimize risks and liabilities by creating strategic tax plans, processes and policies.
Technology and Innovation: Srinivas Rao, CISA, CIA, CFE, Director, Technology Advisory Services
Tech & Innovation is always changing and evolving, and so are the services Crowe MacKay offers in the area. We offer services in cyber risk management (awareness and training, risk assessment and management, cyber security monitoring services); application development and management (design and build responsive and mobile apps; deploy, host, and manage the apps on the cloud); cloud migration and management services; and information technology audit services (risk advisory services, internal controls, audit and testing). This growing industry segment is always exciting to watch!
In the end, all of the markets introduced at this conference, and the spotlight on Yellowknife, reinforce the values held by Crowe MacKay: We care, we share, we invest, and we grow. It was a great conference, and we look forward to next years’, when we will be combining our Partner and Professionals Conferences in Edmonton, AB.
